Guidelines:
- Essays must be minimum 1000 words long, maximum 10 pages.
- Essays must have been written during the 2008-09 academic year, from any term including Summer sessions, for an English Literature or Film course at the University of Pittsburgh below the 1000 level, taught by a Graduate Teaching Fellow (ask the instructor if you are unsure).
- Essays may be submitted by students or their teachers.
- Students can submit only one essay each. Essays that have won other University-sponsored awards are not eligible. Essays should not be submitted simultaneously to other English Department contests.
- Submit six clean copies of the essay with title appearing at the top of the first page; two-sided printing is acceptable.
- Author’s name should appear only on a separate cover sheet that also includes: the essay’s title; the author’s address, phone number, and email address; the name of the award for which the essay is being submitted; the name of the course, and the instructor for whom the essay was written.
- Assignment may be included if necessary to clarify an essay.
- Essays will not be returned.
