The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts just announced their 2009 fellowship recipients. Pitt ‘s Writing Program scored—not once, or even twice, but three times: Jeanne Marie Laskas (M.F.A. Faculty), Jamie Nawojski (M.F.A. 2007), and Robert Stevens (M.F.A. 2008) all received a $5000 grant.
Toi Derricotte has won a 2009 Chancellor’s Distinguished Public Service Award. The award comes in recognition for her many contributions to poets, to poetry, and to American letters as co-founder and co-director of Cave Canem.
Faith Adiele was selected as the 2009 Rachael B. Noel Distinguished Visiting Professor at Metropolitan State College of Denver. This is a week-long residency named in honor of Rachael Noel, a leader of the civil rights movement in Denver and the first African American woman ever to serve elected office in Colorado.
Congratulations to Slu Smith. Her book, Plays in American Periodicals, 1890-1918 (Palgrave/Macmillan) was selected as a CHOICE outstanding academic book of 2008.
