Taube Scholarship Fund Established

A host of old friends, fond memories, and good wishes came together in December when a reception was held in Bruce Hall in honor of professor Myron "Mike" Taube, who retired from the Department of English at the conclusion of the fall term. A specialist in the English Victorian novel, Taube earned his Ph.D. at New York University and came to Pitt in 1966. Over the next 30 years he taught some 80 percent of his courses on the undergraduate level and built a large, devoted following of students. Many of those at the reception reminisced fondly about his classes and the spontaneous discussion groups that took place in his office.

Guests at the retirement reception also expressed their appreciation by helping Taube with a project that he had started to mark his retirement, the Myron Taube scholarship Fund. Begun with a generous personal commitment by Taube and boosted by contributions from many of his colleagues and former students, the fund is nearing the point where it will become an active endowment. Income from the fund will be used to award an annual scholarship on the basis of financial need and academic merit to a junior or senior English major.
