Report on the Literature Program
John Twyning
Jonathan Arac departed for duty at Columbia University, his gravitas, acumen, and contribution to the Literature Program, will be missed. On the bright side, we recruited two fine scholars this year at MLA. Stefan Wheelock joins us an an Assistant Professor in African American Studies with additional interests in the approval of a joint major in Africana Studies and English. Kimberly Latta will also be joining us as an Assistant Professor specializing in the (long) Eighteenth Century. We welcome them both.
Eighty four English Literature majors graduated from our Program last year. Currently we have almost two hundred Literature majors, with a further sixty five in the Children's Literature Program. Since its relatively recent implementation, the Junior Seminar is proving to be a popular and vital component in the English Major. The Program continues to provide a wide array of excellent courses which meet our General Education commitments. The Program would like to thank all the teachers--Visiting Lecturers, Visiting Instructor, and Part-time Faculty--who make this possible.
