Eric Clarke's primary interests are in the history of sexuality, nineteenth-century British literature, and social and cultural theory.
Research and Publications: He is the author of Virtuous Vice: Homoeroticism and the Public Sphere (Duke University Press, 2000), and is an advisory editor for boundary 2: an international journal of literature and culture.
He has published articles on Hegel, Kant, P. B. Shelley, queer theory, and contemporary film. During 1998 he was a Rockefeller Residency Fellow at the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies, the City University of New York, and a visiting scholar at the Program for the Study of Sexuality, Gender, Health, and Human Rights, Columbia University.
His current research projects include articles on George Eliot, Axel Honneth, Theodor Adorno, and international human rights covenants. He is also working on two book projects: one on the moral sphere and Victorian culture, the other on the invention of lifestyle.
