Lynn Emanuel

Lynn Emanuel was born
in New York
and has lived, worked, and traveled in North Africa, Europe, and the Near
East. She has
degrees from
Bennington College, the City College of New York, where she studied with
Adrienne Rich, and the University of Iowa. Her latest book of
poems,
Then, Suddenly--, was published in October 1999
from the
University of Pittsburgh Press and is a selection of the Academy of
American Poets' Poetry Book Club. She is the author of two previous books of
poetry, Hotel Fiesta and The Dig; the latter received
the
National Poetry Series Award. Her work has been featured
in the Pushcart Prize Anthology and Best American Poetry in
1994, 1995, and 1998. She has been a poetry editor for the Pushcart Prize
Anthology, a member of the literature panel for the National Endowment
for the Arts, and is a judge for the James Laughlin Award from the Academy
of American Poets. She has taught at the Bread Loaf Writers
Conference, the Bennington Writers Workshops, and is currently a
professor of English at the University
of Pittsburgh where she directs the Writing Program. She is married
to paleontologist Jeffrey Schwartz and resides in
