Lee Gutkind, editor of the journal, Creative Nonfiction, has performed as a clown for Ringling Brothers, has scrubbed with heart transplant surgeons, traveled with a crew of National League baseball umpires, wandered the country on a motorcycle--all as research for eight books and numerous profiles and essays. His award-winning Many Sleepless Nights, an inside chronicle of the world of organ transplantation, has been reprinted in Italian, Korean and Japanese editions, while his most recent nonfiction book, An Unspoken Art, a Book-of-the-Month Club selection, was selected by the New York Nonfiction Writers' Conference at Goucher College in Baltimore.
Gutkind has traveled widely to read from his work and introduce the creative nonfiction movement throughout the world--from Harvard University to University of Wyoming to Austin, Texas to Zurich, Switzerland. The summer of 2000, Gutkind will present the keynote address at the Australian Associated Writing Programs Annual Conference 2000 on the Great Barrier Reef. Later in the summer, he will help anchor the Paris Writers' Workshop.
