Jeanne Marie Laskas received her MFA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1985.
Since 1994, she has been a regular, syndicated columnist for The Washington Post Magazine ("Significant Others"). She is a regular feature writer for major magazines, almost anything you would find on the racks at the newstand-GQ, Mirabella, Travel and Leisure, Glamour, Redbook, Health, as well as the magazine sections of the Miami Herald, The Chicago Tribune, the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Philadelphia Enquirer; from 1989-1992 she was a contributing editor for Life; she is currently a contributing editor for Esquire.
Her magazine work has been selected for several anthologies, including Best American Sports Writing 2000; she has appeared on Good Morning America, The Today Show, All Things Considered, NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, CNN and ESPN.
Research and Publications: She has published three books: The Balloon Lady and Other People I Know (Duquesne University Press Emerging Writers in Creative Non-Fiction series, 1996); We Remember: Women Born at the Turn of the Century Tell the Stories of Their Lives in Words and Pictures (with an introduction by Hillary Rodham Clinton, William Morrow, 1999); and Fifty Acres and a Poodle: A Story of Love, Livestock, and Finding Myself on a Farm (2000, the first of a series of three books under contract with Bantam Books).
Honors and Awards: She has won over a dozen Golden Quill Awards for Excellence in Journalism and an "Excellence" award from the Sunday Magazine Editors Association. She has taught as a member of the conference faculty and the core faculty in the Goucher College MFA Program in Creative Non-Fiction.
