Salomé Aguilera Skvirsky

Assistant Professor, Latin American and Latino Studies Program, University of Illinois at Chicago

Departments and universities talk a lot about interdisciplinarity, but it's not always so easy in practice. The department and the institution made it possible to do meaningfully interdisciplinary work . My work in film studies was enriched and broadened by taking classes in literary studies and in the History and Hispanic Languages and Literatures department. I was always encouraged to pursue mentors and courses outside the English department if I thought that would help me develop my project and address its questions.

PhD Year: 2009
