Literacy Pittsburgh invites intern applicants for Summer 2026. The Instruction intern supports the mission of “Better Lives Through Learning” by building our agency’s capacity to serve students with goals ranging from improving English, earning their GED, or preparing for new careers or postsecondary education. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact while strengthening communication skills with a diverse range of adult students and colleagues, gaining instructional experience by both working with students one-on-one and in small groups, and contributing to agency strategic projects related to curriculum, lesson planning, mentoring, and intern professional development.
Role Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- During the first week of the internship, complete required trainings to prepare for serving students, including: Tutor Training, GED training, ELL Training, and Literacy Pittsburgh Policies and Procedures.
- Support staff CCR or ELL instructors by serving as a classroom aide in either in-person or online classes, independently lead reading and writing lessons 1-1 or in small groups with students.
- Lead an online conversation group with Literacy Pittsburgh students who have the goal of continuing to improve their skills with reading and writing in English
- Prepare for lessons by writing lesson plans and reviewing materials.
- Support agency strategic priorities by researching and contributing to curriculum, lesson planning, or intern professional development projects.
- Check in weekly with the Internship Program Manager.
Compensation, Timeline, and Schedule

Are you interested in nonprofit work that offers engaging computer science education to K-8 students?
STEM Coding Lab provides computer science and coding education to K-8 students who would not otherwise have access to it. Our programs span in school, after-school, and summer camps in public, charter schools, and community centers throughout Allegheny County.
STEM Coding Lab is seeking Summer Camp Teaching Assistants who can engage young students with foundational computer science activities. No expertise in computer science is required. We value commitment to youth development and the ability to foster a nurturing classroom environment.
Interns are required to commit to a minimum of two 3-hour shifts per week. Additional hours may be available dependent on STEM Coding Lab program needs and intern schedule alignment with available shifts.
STEM Coding Lab classes are primarily held Monday-Thursday.
The following shifts will be available each day (Monday-Thursday) at multiple community partner locations throughout Allegheny County*:
Shift 1: 9:00am - 12:00pm
Shift 2: 12:30pm - 3:30pm
*Exact shift times may vary slightly depending on the specific schedules of partner organizations
Note: Shift times do NOT include travel time, interns are expected to be available for 3 consecutive hours of work time and account for travel time in their personal schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Commit to minimum of two 3-hour shift per week (can sign up for additional hours if available)
- Attend an orientation (3 hours) - Week of June 15th
- Attend training session(s) (6 hours) - Week of June 15th or 22nd
- Regularly attend STEM Coding Lab weekly meetings and communicate with the management team

TribLive.com, Western Pennsylvania’s most visited news website, is looking for an ambitious, enterprising summer intern. The intern will work alongside a dynamic team of award-winning journalists in Pittsburgh, Tarentum and Greensburg.
The Trib has been named Best Overall Newspaper four of the last five years by the Pennsylvania chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The Trib's news platforms include two daily newspapers (Tribune-Review), 9 weeklies and TribLIVE.com, which receives more than 300 million pageviews a year.
What the internship involves:
The intern will work with editors to produce content for the Trib’s various platforms. You’ll have the opportunity to shadow reporters as they go about their days, whether in the courthouse or covering breaking news events. You will be given assignments to report and write several stories a week on various topics determined by your editor. The editor will work with you to sharpen your journalism skills such as interviewing techniques and how to search for public records.
Requirements:
- A passion for news, a competitive nature and collaborative spirit
- Basic understanding of journalism with at least one completed journalism course
- Ability to write clearly and accurately, with strong command of basic rules of grammar
- Ability to meet deadlines and complete work under pressure

Visual Resources is looking for an Editorial Assistant Intern for Spring and/or Summer 2026. The selected intern will work with the journal’s editor Alex J. Taylor, an Associate Professor in Pitt's Department of History of Art and Architecture, to help grow the journal’s submissions. Tasks will include analyzing peer publications to identify potential contributors, drafting correspondence to potential authors, researching topics for special issues, and supporting the editor’s work on other aspects of the journal. The intern will have a weekly meeting with the journal’s editor and undertake other work on the journal independently on their own schedule.

The Western Pennsylvania Writing Project (WPWP) works to support the teaching and learning of writing in schools and communities throughout Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Westmoreland, Beaver, Lawrence, and Butler counties. The Project engages teachers in their own writing and professional growth and increases opportunities for young people to develop their writing abilities. The WPWP is a site of the National Writing Project, a member of the Pennsylvania State Writing Project Network, and a program of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Education.
During the internship period, interns will write public-facing blog posts about the project and project’s history, as well as organize and manage the project’s archives and social media presence.
Each WPWP intern will receive a $500 stipend for their work.

We are affiliated with 90.5 WESA, a public radio station in Pittsburgh. The Library of Congress Junior Fellows Program (JFP) is a paid, 10-week annual summer internship program that enables undergraduate, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain career experience by working with analog and digital collections and supporting the services of the world's largest library.
Working with curators and specialists in various divisions, Junior Fellows explore collections, resources, and initiatives and produce products that position the Library of Congress as a dynamic center for fostering innovation, sparking creativity, and building lifelong connections.
With guidance from mentors, Junior Fellows are exposed to a broad spectrum of library work, including reference, archives, public programming, copyright, preservation, and information technology.
No previous experience is necessary, but internships are competitive and special skills or knowledge are usually desired. Selections are based on narrative responses to vacancy announcement questions, reference calls, and an interview with a selection official.

The College and Career Readiness (CCR) and Marketing intern supports the mission of “Better Lives Through Learning” by building our agency’s capacity to serve students with the goal of improving their reading and writing skills. Many students in the CCR program enter with the goal of earning their GED, so the CCR intern can expect to assist students in reaching this life-changing goal. The intern will also have the opportunity to engage with Literacy Pittsburgh’s social media outreach strategy by creating short form video content for various social media outlets. Newsrooms in the Pittsburgh Media Partnership — a group of more than thirty media outlets across Southwestern Pennsylvania — seek motivated student journalists for the Summer 2026 Internship Program.
This internship is designed for students with a serious interest in journalism to learn on the job, develop their portfolios, and build connections that support their entry into the field. We particularly encourage applications from those underrepresented in the news industry.
Interns selected for the program will work in a local newsroom on day-to-day assignments alongside editors. They will also have access to additional fellowship, networking, and learning opportunities through the PMP.

Pittsburgh's Public Source is looking for an editorial intern and a photojournalism intern for Spring 2026. These are immersive internships built on reporting and fact-checking, with mentorship, journalism training, and additional opportunities. Pay is $15/hour for 15 weeks totaling 225 hours. The internship will be hybrid, with an in-person workspace in Uptown, a short bus ride from Oakland.
This is a paid internship. To qualify for the stipend of $3,375, we ask interns to work 15 hours a week for 15 weeks (or another agreed upon schedule).

The Pitt Pulse, Pitt’s student-run health and sciences magazine, is seeking a Design Intern to join our creative team. Our designers collaborate with writers and editors to bring scientific and health-related articles to life through compelling visuals. We publish three full-length magazines each academic year, all designed entirely by students, from cover to cover.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be University of Pittsburgh undergraduate students with a strong eye for design and attention to detail. Are you graduating this semester and interested in learning the intricacies of a literary journal and the wider world of publishing?
The Paris Review offers editorial internships twice a year (two interns per term). The six-month duration of the internship provides interns an in-depth introduction both to the publication of a literary magazine and to the wider publishing world.
Each internship term covers two full issues of the quarterly magazine. Interns assist with every step of the magazine’s production, particularly with fact-checking, as well as reading and evaluating submissions and researching potential interviews. In addition, they participate broadly across The Paris Review’s administrative, development, and digital departments.
The internship is full-time (40 hours/week) for six months and is compensated at $20/hour, with the option to enroll in health insurance. Applicants should be able to work from our New York City office, depending on health and safety restrictions in New York. (If you are not currently located in New York, please make your willingness to relocate clear in your personal statement.) All applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Because of this internship's timing, it's best for a student graduating this fall who plans to live in the NYC area after graduation.

The Western Pennsylvania Writing Project (WPWP) works to support the teaching and learning of writing in schools and communities throughout Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Westmoreland, Beaver, Lawrence, and Butler counties. The Project engages teachers in their own writing and professional growth and increases opportunities for young people to develop their writing abilities. The WPWP is a site of the National Writing Project, a member of the Pennsylvania State Writing Project Network, and a program of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Education.
During the internship period, interns will write public-facing blog posts about the project and project’s history, as well as organize and manage the project’s archives and social media presence.
